A lot of people don’t like the idea of a piercing, be it for religious, moral or personal reasons. Personally, I have no objection. After all, we can’t all be the same.
I don’t mind conflict of opinion, but notice a lot of people go beyond the reprimand of “If God intended you to have holes in your body, you’d have been born with them” and insist on inflicting their biased views upon the recipient in a selfish and unabashed demeanour.
Unfortunately that recipient often turns out to be me. I don’t particularly mind someone asking me about one of my body jewellery efforts, and with no shortage of studs to choose from (lip, tongue, navel, ears and nipple) I can understand the curiosity of the non-pierced wishing to delve into the mind of someone who thinks a few holes here and there are actually quite pretty.
However, when complete strangers start spouting mind-numbing ignorance such as “Was your tongue sore when you got it pierced?” or “Does that silver thing not hurt you?”, I feel like giving said ignorant individual a rather large shake whilst shouting “DUUUUUUUH!” and possibly crossing my eyes and drooling a little, just for effect.
To be honest, I find it hard to explain exactly why I find body jewellery so appealing. Maybe it’s a cross of aesthetic looks and individuality. And then, of course, there’s the sexual enjoyment – not to everyone’s taste, but having a mouth piercing here and there can sensitise things for the (lucky) recipient. Above all, doing so is completely safe as long as precautions are taken. I’ve never had any bad experiences of studs, bars or rings being ‘ripped out’ due to frenzied attacks on the opposite sex, nor have I developed any weird diseases, odd side effects, or hairy palms (oh wait, I’m getting that last one confused with something else…).
The difficulty with explaining the sexual part to someone – adults especially – is the assumption that because I have it, I’m going to flaunt it. Not necessarily. You’ll find I’m not one for constantly ramming my tongue down throats, and that I don’t discuss such things with many people, if any at all. Despite the statements I make with my body art, I’m completely harmless. Honest.
What do you think about body piercing? Do you have any? What do your parents think? Let us know!

I have my ears pierced and was considering getting a second piercing still on the lobe but decided against it. I have been told that I have the “perfect stomach” for a belly button ring, whatever that means, but I would probably not get one just because I think it would be too uncomfortable. I do think that they look pretty cute sometimes though. As far as nose and tongue/lip piercings, I do not understand them and would never want to get one. They do not turn me on at all. Eating food with a tongue stud in the middle of things just does not sound pleasant and I have visions of chewy foods ripping it out. Ouch! Not to mention the fact that one centimeter the wrong way and your tongue would be paralyzed for the rest of your life. As far as nose rings, they are notorious for bad infections and I would not want to have one during a cold. I understand why some people think they are attractive, but they are definitely not my cup of tea.
I have a nose ring. I never had an infection. It can be annoying when you have a cold. But you simply can take it out and put it back on maybe when you wanna sleep. I’ve had the piercing for 3 years now and I still love it. I also have three piercings on my right ear and two on the other. I did pierce the top part of my ear once but that one got infected and I had to take it out. I don’t think there is anything wrong with piercing. Just make sure you’re going to love it for a while at least.
I got my first piercing when I was 16, my mom persuaded me for my birthday, and up until that point I never really wanted one- for the same reason, I imagine some people do- not having one was different considering the amount of piercing I was around on a daily basis.
I got my second holes spur-of-the-moment in December, and I love how it looks. I’m considering a nose piercing too, perhaps in the summer.
Sometimes I find people can have too many, but them again I kind of like guys with lip-rings. I suppose if it’s sparse I can handle it, but really I think “to each his own.” I would never go beyond the nose, but I know plenty of people who have and love it.
“If God intended you to have holes in your body, you’d have been born with them”
….. and if God intended 50 year old women to not have any gray hairs, he wouldn’t have let them grow!
But hair dye is ok, of course.
More power to you AND your piercings ladies!!
I currently have my lobes done as well as bellybutton, nose ring, lip ring in the labret, and the tragus in my left ear. My mom’s none too pleased. But she’ll get over it. I’ve not had any infection issues or anything…
i have an industrial in one ear. (two piercings connected by a bar.) and in my other ear i have three piercings in the cartilage area and this summer my piercer is going to custom make me a spiral piece to connect all of them. i had my rook pierced but it got ripped out. but it didn’t hurt and you cant even tell.
initially it is sore and kinda hard to sleep on. but i think my piercings are cool and unique. my mo is not a fan, but i have convinced her that it’s all good because they are not permanent. (but i have no intentions of taking them out any time soon.)

I’ve found it really interesting finding out what you all think, thanks for the comments so far
I’ve never really thought about it from another individuals point of view before
Um, Rachel, whats a rock?
I’ve got double holes in both lobes, and a double cartilage on my right ear. I love my ear piercings! I really want to get my nose done but I’ve watched several friends get it done and it looks so painful!!
For you all, how bad did your nose hurt comparatively?
My nose piercing hurt, but it was because I got it done at a skeezy place and I think maybe the guy was drunk!? (but it was over in less than 3 seconds)
…it was the few weeks following that was annoying. Sore to the touch and when you accidentally rip it out…OUCH.
But I love it and I’d do it again
What the hell is a rock???
For K - it’s a ROOK. Its a cartilage piercing for your ear. Google it, I think it’s awesome.
I have my lip pierced, and I’m getting my industrial as soon as I’m out of season (I play softball for Emerson). I love my piercings and cannot wait to get more!
I personally have 12 piercings (6 pairs, 3 in my lobes, 2 in my cartilage) and I love them. I think that a person should be allowed to do as they please with their bodies, afterall, it’s them who has to live with it, not some annoyingly curious person who sees them or an agitated family member. I would love to get more done, not because I like pain, but because it helps show my personality, it’s a comfort thing. If people can dress in weird clothing and can say “this makes me different” then I can get a hole made on a random part of my body and say the same thing. A lot of people, however, equate a piercing to a tattoo. They just don’t get the fact that, when I’m tired of having the holes in my ears and anywhere else I choose to get them, I can take them out and, with time, they’re gone. Yes, piercings can be permanent, but hey, so is that scar from when you were a kid and scraped your knee in a bad fall, but no one bitches about that, now do they?
I love this artical! people at std romance like the holes
I have my tongue, nose, eyebrow, bellybutton, and three on each ear. I have been told I wear them very feminine and pretty, I choose a small stud for the nose, a regular ball for the eyebrow, and a colorful one for the tongue, a dangly for the bellybutton, and two studs in the ear, with one hoop. ^Generally.
I had a very fast upbringing. When I’m talking fast, I mean FAST. But I came onto piercings a lot quicker than I thought I would. I always swore to myself, “I wont get THAT done.” but once I got it, “well then i wont get THAT OTHER THING done.” but its addicting.
I have the perfect body for piercing. I have a super-high pain tolerance, and I don’t think it hurt a bit, and I’m responsible enough to take care of it and use good hygiene.
I got my first, second, and third holes in each ear when I was 11.
When I was 12, I decided (high) to pierce my nose myself. I didn’t even use a needle. I just marked the place and worked an earring through.
When I was 13, I had a friend pierce my bellybutton. It got infected. I took it out. I went to a place, a trainee did it, but it looked crooked, so I had another guy in the same place take it out and re-do it.
This satisfied me. When I was 14, I had gotten really wasted the night before, and woke up with an eyebrow piercing. It looked professional enough, and classy. So I kept it there.
My dad had always told me,
“You can get any piercing you want, except for the tongue.”
Of course I never told him when I got my piercings, he was far away.
When I was 14 1/2, I went to a shop with my bestfriend while she was getting her bellybutton done, and the prices were unbelievably cheap for a tongue piercing (25$). Keep in mind this was the same place that I went for a bellybutton piercing(where they messed up), and it was no bigger than a goddamn hotdog stand. Anyhow, I got my tongue pierced and the same thing happened. It looked crooked, I told them to take it out and repierce it. It was bleeding a lot, but didn’t hurt.
I’m fully satisfied and feel they couldn’t suit me better.
Does anyone else have a collarbone or clavicle piercing? not the one that actually goes under it, but runs parallel.. i got mine done this weekend and i LOVE it, im just curious as to if anyone else has one… they don’t seem very common
