Well, I kept my promise and detoxed. Lemme tell you; it was not easy. I know everyone always says that it’s mind over matter and that other mental stuff, but I never really listened to it until a day into detoxing when all I wanted was a medium-rare steak, curly fries, and an apple pie.
Eating fruit and ONLY fruit is not the easiest thing in the world. In fact, it’s one of the hardest; swallowing that apple while you pass the Cheescake Factory in the mall is NOT easy. But it paid off like nobody’s business. By the end of the week, I felt energized, awake, and my skin had even cleared up. Whoah.
If you’re planning on detoxing, there’s already a pretty convenient diary on here that you should def check out. But I’ll tell you what carried me through those seven days; smoothies. Now, the recipes I’ll give you all have milk or yogurt in them for people who don’t want to detox but still want a tasty, healthy lunch. If you’re actually detoxing, replace the yogurt stuff with more fruit of your choice (preferably one of the ones in the recipe), and replace the milk with either water or ice. For a little extra fiber, add some wheat germ or flax seed.
You’ll also probably notice that there are no instructions. That’s cuz smoothies are probably the easiest lunch to make. Chop, blend, drink. Must be the nectar of the gods.
Strawberry/Banana:
- ½ cup of skim or soy milk.
- ½ fat-free plain yogurt.
- 1 teaspoon honey.
- 1 banana, chopped (freeze it for an extra chill).
- ½ cup strawberries, halved.
Berry:
- ½ cup of skim or soy milk.
- 2 cups of your choice of frozen berries.
- ½ cup of fresh squeezed orange juice.
Lemonade:
- ½ cup fresh squeezed lemon juice.
- 1 ½ cup raspberries.
- 1 cup lowfat yogurt.
Immune Booster!:
- 3 cups watermelon, chopped.
- 1 cup cantaloupe, chopped.
- 1 cup strawberries, halved.
- 1 cup low-fat plain yogurt.
- 2 cups ice (or more frozen fruit!).
I Don’t Have A Blender:
- 1 cup GNC (or substitute for your local smoothie store)
- 2 ½ cups money you’d probably spend on a liter of Coke
After a solid week of about one of these a day, I swear to you that smoothies and detoxing together are probably one of the best couples you’ve seen so far this year. Need proof?

These sound great, but have you seen the price of fruit (all fresh produce really) lately? It makes picking up 2 cups of berries between 7-10 dollars! That quite a chunk of change on a single drink, but I suppose that if you’re eating/drinking only that then it might be a more acceptable exchange . . .
I’ve heard a lot about detoxing but never done it myself because I’m a bit of a picky eater. Do you mind sharing what you munched on all week other than smoothies? Thanks! Congrats on your progress!
