I am so. hungover. That debate drinking game totally killed me. I woke up this morning hugging a a 40 of PBR with red lipstick smeared all over my cheek…
And I have no idea who won that freaking thing.
Not, I’d like to add, because I was too drunk to see the end of the debate. No, no, no; I watched every last minute. I have no idea who won because neither candidate really threw any major punches.
Biden, presumably afraid to look like a villain, spoke only to the camera the whole time. And Palin just kept saying the same words and doing the same things over and over again: nucULAR, maverick, winking?!
So, I need to know what you think: who won last night’s VP debate?!

Even though they BOTH starting off by not answering the questions- - Biden quickly got on track and responded to both Palin and the moderator. On the other hand, Palin was giving shout-outs to elementary classes and talking about her extensive experience as governor of an energy rich state. & that’s about all of her experience that she can explain…because have yet to hear about anything groundbreaking that she did as Alaska governor.. AND NOT ANSWERING THE QUESTIONS.
& then she’s all…I may not answer the questions to your or (enter moderator’s name here)’s liking, but I’m talking directly to the American people. Newsflash Sarah: We, the American people, would love for you to answer the question.
I’m still undecided to a certain extent if you’re wondering. I’m definitely not for McPalin, and the Dems have 2 more debates to convince me.
It didn’t really feel like a debate, unless of course Sarah Palin was moderating. How can you just answer the questions you pose yourself? WTF? She knows 3 topics and somehow tries to bring every question back to those.
And by the way, PALIN, it is pronounced NUCLEEEEEAR.
Jesus H. Christ.
Sarah made sense on a lot of things. Biden was good too and used his 30 plus years on the Senate so he was very familiar with all of the forign and Washington policies. So I wish sarah asked him on how are we going to have change when you have been part of the old regime for 30 years. Bush has only been for 8 years. Plus it was the Democratic house and senate the past 4 and 8 years that Bush had to deal with. If Biden hasn’t done anything in 30 years to get change what will make a difference now? Check more into Obama’s tax plan. She touched on that and when you really analyze it, it will not work. She also said we need alternative energy. Take time and really ask yourself how Obama is going to make all of his “promises happen”. Do some research into Nuclear power. MCCain is for it Obama is not. We need it if we are going to have all of those other options for alternative energy and Mccain knows it. Also find out more about the ethanol tax break. Do you guys even understand what that means? Mccain and Palin are right on it when it comes to that and a lot of other things. I hate to say it and i know I will get shit for this but Obama talks to the middle/lower class who just want to hear TAX CUTS and are ignorant to everything else. He uses no intellect at those rallies (he doesnt have to). He tells them what they want to hear but not how he is going to do it or get his plans passed. Biden said at least 10 things last night that were NOT TRUE but Im sure the liberal media is not going to tell you that. Take the time and look it up yourself.
anyone notice how she kept mispronouncing ahmadinejad?
NOT ACHMINAJAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Lee
I have taken the time to look it up myself and it’s McCain’s tax plan that will not work. McCain wants to cut taxes but with a 700,000,000,000 bailout, that will just not happen. It’s not possible. McCain with either have to raise taxes or have it stay the same.
Palin mentioned alternative energy but seeing as how McCain is receiving a lot of donations from oil companies(Hess in particular), I don’t see that happening anytime soon. The right has their ignorant chant of “drill, baby, drill” not realizing that even if they drill offshore, it won’t lift the gas burden we feel at the pumps until 2030.
Obama has not ruled out Nuclear, he would support it if it was clean and safe. Most plants are hot disposing on waste properly and/or not noting the half-life of their materials.
Obama never said he was going to cut taxes, he stated that there would not be a tax increase for the middle class.
Your statement about a democratic house and senate are false as the Dems took majority in 2007.
Sarah held her own but spoke only about the talking points she had memorized. At many times she answered questions with topics that the moderate hadn’t even asked her on.
Lee, I think you need to take a look at McCain’s tax plan. & also apparently at his voting record about alternative energy.
Oh, in other news. Wells Fargo just bought Wachovia.
Joy.
Well, it hasn’t been finalized.. but it’s been agreed upon.
ok, i can understand that a lot of you dont like Palin…
BUT you have to admit that she spoke a LOT more clearly. Biden stumbled over most of his responces, and a lot of the time, i couldnt understand what he was saying.
So political views aside, and with official debate rules, i think Palin won.
but, not by much.
OMG I hate the way Palin ‘debates’. So stupid, and not debating. She hardley addressed the topics at hand, and kept referring back to the same 3 topics, no matter what was asked. I don’t know if it’s because they are the only three topics she knows about or if she just REALLY wanted the last word; but I just wished the whole time that she’d either shut her face or refer to the topic at hand. They have a time limit on topic responses for a REASON, and when time is up YOU MOVE ON!!! Especially sucks because it is the only VP debate, and in my mind she made me hate her to a huge degree.
Also, all the shout outs and talking about her personal life… she just needs to stop. I do love that she got owned when she was talking about knowing what this and that is like (special kid, living in different location than spouse, etc) and then Biden pulled out his personal background (for the first time EVER) which basically made her sound like a whiney bitch since she never shuts up about her stuff.
Seriously, Michael?
She didn’t answer a single question in a straightforward manner. She danced around every topic that she was supposed to answer, and was incredibly disrespectful to both the Moderator, Gwen Ifill, and to Senator Biden by blatantly refusing to answer their questions.
Oh people….don’t worry about the candidates tax plans.
Because whatever they are proposing now has absolutely no relevance on what they will actually enact/pass when they are in office. You know this. Wise up.
As for the debates…as much as I hate Palin, she debated well. She made some slip ups, but Biden did too.
all polls of independents post-vp debate shows that, by an almost 2 to 1 margin, Biden won.
A lot of mainstream media, which tends to be liberal, said after the debate that it was a tie. So what does that tell you
Also..we all know that pretty much everyone on this site hates Sarah Palin. But there are people that ARE voting McCain/Palin…and it’s ridiculous that people try to make it sound like you’re less of a woman for voting for Palin, or that you’re a complete idiot for voting for McCain.
Palin is leading in this poll… right now it is 53% to 40%, I think after 400 votes, that’s a pretty definite margin. And its obviously pretty clear who; there isnt a question in the minds of these internet users, or the American people!
As much as I would have liked to see Biden win this, its hard to admit it; but Palin killed him in this debate…
You guys can disagree with me all you want, but as a Democrat, I want to be as fair as I can, and this time i’m being fair… Im admitting PALIN won
Ohh well
Well palins leading by 14% in this poll
I guess she won?
haha “400 votes”. You do realize people can vote as many times as they want…right? Sounds more like some angry Palin fan wanted to prove their point by voting about 200 times in a row…
I think that by official debating rules Biden certainly wrong as he was able to answer every question and corrected Palin on her many “misunderstandings” of the facts and voting records. Moreover, as someone who follows politics, I am interested in hearing specific real answers rather than repetitive buzzwords.
Nevertheless, Palin did not do as poorly as I would have hoped. She spoke fairly clearly (except when she would lose her train of thought and then revert to talking about her Alaskan energy state and being mavericks) and certainly said a lot of WORDS that the general public will like. Which has always been the Republican strategy, and seeing as Bush won twice, it seems to work. Especially given her inexperience and track record in interviews, she was able to form sentences much more coherently and only said “umm” a few times.
My problem is that you can’t give shout-outs and steer the conversation to the only 3 topics you know about when you are talking to world leaders, especially those with whom we do not have ideal relationships. You need to be able to adapt, persuade and be knowledgeable about many more topics (culture included) than this women has never been exposed to. And that is not something you can learn in a 3-day crash course. You may say that as VP, this won’t be an issue, but it is a very real possibility that McCain could die in office. He is 72, has a history of skin cancer, somewhat high blood pressure and his father died at 70, grandfather at 61. These are not good indicators of a long life. Plus, be a maverick all you want, but working with Congress and the Senate (especially one with a Dem majority) is going to be a lot different than dealing with a nepotism filled Alaskan legislature. You can’t just say “I’m not going to answer your questions” and expect to get things done.
Everyone is just saying Palin won it because she exceeded everyone’s expectations by not mentioning pit bulls, lipstick or making little shooting guns with her fingers.
Biden won the debate hands down.
Sarah Palin is in no way capable of being a heartbeat away from the presidency, she isn’t even be capable of running a PTA meeting.
I admit that Sarah beat me. I just wasn’t ready for her. I was expecting the dumb air head that was interviewed by Katie Couric but NO, I get the barracuda hockey mom eating down my throat and out my tail hole. I did the best I could, but she got to me. I am a tough scrappy kid from Scranton and she got to me. How did you like my joker hair doo? Spiffy huh? See! I can relate to you kids. And what did you think about when I did my emotional thing and it looked like I was about to cry. That was great! I deserve an emmy or grammy of some award for that! Look just vote for me and that other dude. We’ll tell you what ever you want to hear as long as you will vote for us. And…free beer for everyone!!!!!
my thoughts on the debate:
way to reiterate the only four things you fucking know about.. (one of which: being a hockey mom. who the fuck cares? i can be a hockey mom in ten years. ANYONE can be a hockey mom. hand your kid a fucking hockey stick. some achievement.)
I am just amazed that Palin was able to talk in sentences. This was the first time I listened to her and my skin didn’t crawl from embarrassment. Anyway I’m voting for Obama- and I don’t even live in the States anymore. Moved to Canada, unrelated to politics, but I still couldn’t stand seeing McCain/Palin in office.
Okay, just because you don’t like Palin doesn’t mean that she’s a moron. To say that you’re amazed that she can talk in sentences? To be surprised that she can carry on a debate. It’s ridiculous. She’s not an idiot. Just because you don’t agree with someone’s politics doesn’t make them stupid. With the way some people type on this website, I don’t think you’re the best to judge who’s intelligent and who isn’t.
the GOP wouldn’t dare schedule any more unscripted TV time for Palin, if that tell you anthing… they say they love their VP pick, but they sure are trying hard to prevent her from saying anything that’s unscripted
