Avoid All Personal Contact with “Ice Brkr”

Don’t you hate it when you see a hot guy at the bar and you’re too much of a wimp to strike up a conversation with him? Put your troubles at the door - Ice Brkr is here to solve all of your social problems.

Ice Brkr is a new dating application in the UK that enables wallflowers to break the ice with their budding prospect - through text-messages. Using the Ice Brkr service, all you have to do is browse through the photos of potential daters on the site, check to see if the object of your affection is available, text them “hello” and there you have it - instant L-U-V.

Yes, you read that correctly: humankind has stooped so low as to accept texting as a reasonable way to meet someone. The end is near.

I’m a reasonable guy, but taking the time to use a site like Ice Brkr is just as pathetic as not having the cojones to approach a female - maybe even worse.

On second thought, it is worse, seeing that probably only 14 people use this tool, making it doubtful that anybody worth “texting” is logged on and ready to go for your pleasure.

Still, Ice Brkr has the potential to be a great way to trick your friends. I’m not sure how exactly, but someone will find out soon enough.

My take is that ladies will not find a guy more attractive simply because he plucked up the courage to walk over and say hello. Because it may be the chap in the corner that she finds attractive. Seems like Ice Brkr lets her avoid Mr OverConfident and to accept a friend request from the person she actually fancies instead.

I have been to a few bars where you would find telephones on all of the tables and phone numbers directly above. If you saw someone you liked, you could simply give them a call and chat for a while. If you liked each other, you could meet or dance, etc. Saves the agony of walking over, saying hi and getting shot down.

As I see it, this is pretty much a modernized version of that, instead of using the bars phone, you use your mobile phone. Not a bad idea if you are looking for a hi-tech way of meeting people. Here are other ideas for meeting people:

    Dear EDITORS

Thanks for talking about Ice Brkr. The humour is appreciated.

But seriously. Research by psychologists shows that females send off positive body language signals to the specific guys they fancy. Sadly guys don’t understand complicated stuff like that. So it’s the most confident guy who comes over to chat. And in many cases that is not the person she was interested in.

And regardless of how confident guys claim to be anecdotal evidence suggests that most have difficulty approaching someone they find attractive in a bar.

Ice Brkr may sound like a ‘new’ idea but if you think about it, it is the online dating ideas that are actually new. Ice Brkr actually takes us back to what humans have done for thousands of years. Instead of ‘meeting’ a disembodied person online, Ice Brkr relies on our innate ability to decide who we fancy just by looking at them. And then it helps us meet them to see if there is any chemistry - right there and then.

Granted, Ice Brkr may not be for everyone, but it addresses a real problem.

A cable TV channel recently did a nice 2 minute piece (aired on Valentines Day) explaining how Ice Brkr really works. Please take a look. It may change what you think.
