The Jonas Brothers (one of whom, let’s not kid ourselves, is going to turn out to be gay) are all over the airwaves these days. Disney is pimping these kids out hardcore; giving them their own band, TV movie, and so many endorsements I’m sure they’re already richer than I’ll ever be. Hell, I’m ten years too old for the Disney channel but still know waaayyy more about these nubile young boys (somebody needs to tell their stylist to LAY OFF the foundation. Geeze) than certain cousins in my immediate family.
Speaking of TMI, I already knew the J. Bros wore promise rings. Whether Disney put a (metaphoric) gun to their head, or they really all want to wait until marriage to get it on, I never thought much about the religious implications behind those rings. Yes, certain devout Christian peeps tend to hang onto their V-cards longer than a lot of us, but I never assumed the Jonas Bros were trying to impart any kind of religious message on the impressionable youth of this sugar-pop obsessed country.
I assumed wrong.
At least according to Fox News.
The little video below — from everyone’s favorite Republican news station — illustrates a rather lackluster and idiotic debate between some lady I’ve never head of and some chick who was an MTV VJ when I was still in training pants. Their argument, whether the Jonas brothers are good for America or are going to give us figurative cavities — is stupid and subjective. The real interesting part are the titles underneath the boring people.
The first title, “Christian Controversy: Jonas Bros Openly Pro-Jesus”, and the second one a little later “Christian Teen Stars: Getting Bashed Unfairly?” are either grossly overblown or actually kind of newsworthy. Are the Jonas Brothers really openly Pro-Jesus? Are they truly promoting the Christian lifestyle? Are the kids of this Nation — many of whom aren’t Christian (I know, surprise, surprise!) being covertly fed conservative Christian ideals? Is Disney as a company promoting conservative Christianity??!
Or is Fox News just attempting to make it seem that way?
PS: the best part of this video is the fact that the music the Jonas Brothers pump out is called “punk rock“. Oh Fox News. Totally in touch with today’s youth.

Actually, I’m pretty sure studies have shown teens with promise rings are no more likely to hold onto those v-cards than those who don’t. Can you imagine horny teen boys willingly turning away that many groupies for that long?
I like…big…jugs and I cannot lie,
those other wankstas can deny,
when a chick walks in with an itty-bitty waist,
and her funbags in my face,
I get hard!
Make me wanna clean ‘em,
by puttin’ my johnson between ‘em!
Make me wanna cum,
make me wanna say,
“Baby Got Boobs!”
I don’t care if their fake!
In my hands I’ll take
them and squeeze ‘em
and pleeze ‘em,
so take your big fat titties out
so that everybody sees ‘em!
I kinda like Jane Fonda
with big headlights in front of her Honda!
So all you girls with big bazongas,
shake…those…big and healthy jugs!
When I see a chick who’s stacked,
her cunt soon with me is packed!
I like doggystyling a chick with big tits
I bang her then feed her my Kibbles and Bits!
I don’t mean to sound corny,
but even Shakespeare says
that “those tits doth make me horny!”
So take your girls, mammaries,
breasts, teats, whate’er u wanna call ‘em!
Let ‘em out, put in my face
and make me say “Baby Got Boobs!”
“As their fans get older they’re gonna want dangerous: they’re gonna want PETE WENTZ…” Because Pete just exudes danger with his eyeliner and skinny jeans… and Miley might as well tattoo “whore” on her forehead since showing her back in public automatically makes her a tramp. Seriously since when is everyone a pedophile?
Haha - Pete Wentz = Dangerous.
wow. im amazed, genuinely AMAZED that this makes news. or that you would blog about it on a site i usually think blogs about things that are important or at least interesting. WHO CARES if theyre “pro jesus”???? honestly, you have milions of celebrities glamourising a lifestyle of bed-hopping and hard drugs but when a celebrity is christian THEN theyre dangerously influencing the minds of the young??? grow up, america.
Zoe I agree with you. What is wrong with being “pro-Jesus” Jesus teaches morals, and values, and safety (no sex before marriage means no STD’s or unwanted pregnancies, and murder is wrong, and harming your body with drugs and alcohol is wrong, and adultery is wrong, and gluttony (eating so much you get huge and unhealthy) is wrong. Everything that is wrong with America can be attributed to the lack of religion in peoples lives. Think about when these problems started to get worse, It was when god started to be questioned and taken out of school and government. God is the driving force behind government without God’s laws wh are we listening to a government? Without something to scare us into being good (the idea of heaven) then what is to keep us all from being rapists and murderers, and abusers? What is the harm in a religion (even if it’s not true) but what is the harm in beliveing in something that is going to keep people from doing bad things? It’s not restricting us, it’s like a parent giving a child boundaries and rules. It’s their for our protection and to make our lives better and easier. So you might have to subdue some carnal urges (sex, food, drugs) but what ever happened to will power? How can you be proud of not having the power to say no to something?
I have sex, I drink, and I’ve done/ do drugs. No one is perfect, but the beauty of God is we don’t have to be and that’s ok. So my question is what is so wrong with religion? Wh is something meant to keep us safe and happy and the world a more perfect place, looked down upon and hated by so many?
Because people don’t want to be told what to do by anyone or anything. But seriously, what gives us the right to do whatever we please? Because we’re alive? Sorry but not everything can go your way and not everything is ok. If you get your way it means someone elses toes are being stepped on, so the only fair thing is to have the same rules and boundaries for everyone everywhere and that’s the purpose of religion so everyone can live as fairly as possible.
(and the more we eliminate religion, the less likely we are to have world peace)
casey, thats really inspiring. although you went on for a long time, it is good to see that people other than me ‘get’ what religion is all about.
just watch out, because some hippie is probably gonna flame you now.
haha yeah I did, I just get going and can’t stop.
But I’m ready, I mean anyone who’s going to argue with that is just dumb and looking for excuses to continue living a moral-less life guilt free. (But like I said they’re the reason we will never have world peace).
I feel so dumb saying world peace, it reminds me of Miss America.
I love world peace.
And there’s nothing wrong with loving Jesus. I just think it’s interesting Fox News decided to highlight the Bros as being “Pro-Jesus”… do their songs constitute as Christian pop?
Ok this is what it all comes down to. Fox News. If this hadn’t been on Fox news, you wouldn’t have cared. People in this country have such a hatred for this station because God forbid they allow a conservative to be on there. It is unbelievable. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it!! And please don’t make it sound like no other stations are biased, because that would just be plain ridiculous.
‘God is the driving force behind government’
You think that? That’s really interesting, I’d love to talk to you in person, not to argue just to hear your views.
Out of interest what’s your thoughts about Bush administration? It’s hard to imagine the horrific and (to me at least) seemingly pointless situation in Iraq and Afgahnistan being orchestrated by the traditional idea of a loving God, even if you do use a ‘greater good’ (of removing a dictatorship) argument.
Also, I think it would be scary if this was true:
‘Without something to scare us into being good (the idea of heaven) then what is to keep us all from being rapists and murderers, and abusers?’
I’d like to think that humans don’t need fear to stop us destroying each other. From a more philosophic angle I would like to think that things like companionship and respect control our behaviour more than fear of a God.
From a Biological view, species develop bonds and hierarchies that keep populations together and in check. A species that murdered indiscriminately wouldn’t last very long.

Sorry for the third comment in a row but I’m a bit of an apostrophe Nazi so I couldn’t let my ‘what’s your thoughts about Bush administration?’ train wreck of a sentence slide by. Obviously I meant ‘what are your thoughts on the Bush administration’.
Better a blow job in the White House than a retarded punk who can’t pull us out of a quagmire!
Does anyone have any idea how many entertainers on our states and albums of all genres of music are “Pro-Jesus?” A LOT of them. But it’s mildly disturbing to me when the virginity of pubescent boys is being used as an advertising campaign by a PROMISE RING website, and closely watched for total strangers of all ages and religious or political backgrounds. I agree with Kennedy….America loves hypocrisy, and eventually these kids are going to start questioning things as teenagers and twenty-somethings do, and then they’re going to be crucified by both sides as much as they’re being ridiculed or talked about now.
I also believe the fact that they’re young, wholesome-looking, pretty, and caucasian makes them the poster children for a lot of religious communities in a way that any other entertainer who follows Christianity isn’t.
Well, I’ll say right now (if you hadn’t already gathered) I am a Christian. Although I no longer go to church, haven’t read too much of the bible, and can’t stand people who try and preach to me, I do believe in God, and I believe Jesus is the messiah and I believe everything they teach. I do not think the bible is literal, but in fact “stories” about past events (nowhere does it say that the bible is Gods LITERAL word, to my knowledge at least). But I am also open minded enough to believe in evolution. For instance I think the “7 days” in which god created the earth and everything on it were not actual days but thousands of years between, and the 7 days are metaphorical. Also humans were created at the end of the seven days, after all the animals and wildlife, which could mean we evolved. There’s no reason science and religion cant go hand in hand, and I think a true Christian would see that. (However in today’s society so many people are being mislead and turning religion into a complete joke.) I think humans are more complex than wild animals. We were given the power to think and make our own decisions and have free will and everything else that sets us apart from other animals. Animals follow a routine that has been programmed into them, as humans we don’t. So it would be nice if we could be content with companionship and respect, but look around, that’s just not the case. Humans don’t respect each other, in fact, we don’t respect much of anything (ourselves, gluttony. The earth, pollution. And each other, murder, rape, flat out rude behavior). So sadly we do need something to “scare us straight” and honestly I don’t see the harm in that as long as it will make us all live better happier and less worrisome lives. God “said” to obey an earthly government as you would him. He gave us the 10 commandments, which are all supported by our countries laws. And this country was founded on religious principles. Things weren’t perfect before but they are definitely noticeably getting worse. The world will never be a perfect place because humans are fallible (as we are supposed to be, God also said only he is perfect and our CHOICE to be imperfect is what keeps us separate from him.) but it just seems the more we progress the more destruction we are doing, the more hateful and stressful the world is becoming and the closer we are to self destruction.
And my thoughts on the Bush administration, well I don’t necessarily agree with the war but I do think it would be a mistake to back out now. We will be looked at as weak and failures and seen as giving up, and with as much shit as our country gets we really can’t afford that. That is like inviting people to attack us. And we’ve always been a country that starts things and finishes them, to pull out of the war will completely change the worlds view of America and I think that is what Bush is afraid of. Even if he did make a mistake taking us to war, he is trying to do what is best for the country by keeping us there (yeah that sounds completely insane but it’s true). But I would rather have a proud American like Bush in office then a man like Obama who has openly said if it comes down to it he will side with the Muslims (the very people who despise our country) and who has also openly admitted he will not salute the flag or say the pledge. Umm I’m sorry, but this is the man we want to be the president of the US. Someone who makes us his second priority and won’t even partake in our timeless patriotic traditions? I’ll take Bush over him any day.
wow, this post is getting a lot of comments, but i do really want to get this up there too. casey, i think that you and i clearly do agree on a lot of things, i also am a christian but i believe in evolution and i dont like preaching at people or being preached to. i could not agree more that people (i think mainly out of fear and stubbornness) are turning religion into a joke by deliberately closing their minds to the development of human beings’ understanding of the world. however our opinions differ a little more when it comes to bush. i am not american, i live in england and im european by origin but i am not a ‘proud european’, that means nothing to me. nobody chooses where they are born, being proud of it is therefore inherantly ridiculous. and let me tell you that right now, you guys dont have to be worrying that people are going to start thinking badly of america. i dont want to be the one to burst your bubble and im certainly not one of the great majority im about to tell you about but geez, most people (not BY ANY MEANS just muslims) really hate you guys!! and the bush administration that you try to protect in your comment give them some serious basis for it! i know, we (yes we, uk troops are in iraq too and i aim all this at my government as much as yours) cant just pull all the troops out now and leave iraq in the state it is, its clear that the political and social chaos we’ve created can’t just be backed away from in a cowardly way, that certainly wouldnt be consistant with christian values of helping people. but it wasnt a particularly christian invasion, was it? motivated by greed, one of the 7 deadly sins.
so here we go, at the risk of offending some people, i just think you should know. people find the fact that you recite the pledge to the flag and all that from childhood seriously creepy and at least find it bears a passing similarity to brainwashing. the laws of your country, although some are based on christian teaching - eg do not murder, are hugely inconsistant. what about the death penalty? remember jesus? remember turn the other cheek? how about gun control. or the blatant and worrying lack of gun control? you wonder why theres so many gun crimes when you hand them out to the public legally?
i could go on. im genuinely having to stop myself so that i dont ramble too much (as i realise i already am).
you don’t have a history of “backing out” of wars but you do most certainly have a history of foreign policy domminated by the attitude of “lets take whatever we can get” you cant keep shouting us down with ‘you would be talking german if it wasnt for us’ look at some of the other parts of history before you start on the self-rightous rant.
furthermore i agree that humans were given things that animals weren’t and hence are the domminant species. i do also seem to recall the Bible ’saying’ that we have RESPONSIBILITY for the world and the animals in it. polluting the environment past the point of recovery is not a particularly responsible way of behaving towards it and especially coming from a country with more resources than anywhere else to do something about it. yes, you are the ones with that power.
ive said before, i dont hate america or americans. i beleive abitrarily hating a group of people due to their ethnicity, race, religion or any other deffining feature is wrong and stupid. but that is not the kind of attitude that america grants the rest of the world and although i don’t condone it, i have to say i completely see where this backlash of hate is coming from. america has so much money and so little compassion. compassion, another one of those christian virtues that i think obama demonstrates a hell of a lot more of than bush.
everybody seems to agree on one thing in these comments, that morality and the general situation of humanity is going from bad to worse… so maybe it’s time to swallow some of that ‘american pride’ and admit that there’s a lot that needs to change. i’d agree that things need to change here too, nobody talks about ‘english pride’ the way you guys go on about yours. and when it comes to obama, im not going to hold my breath or anything… but think about it, he could just be your salvation?
Admittedly all the American media that I read is hugely biased towards Obama, but I love the guy. He seems like a real breath of fresh air.
Ok, so the blog I’m going to link you to is openly pro-Obama, but have a read of this (http://thinkonthesethings.wordpress.com/2007/11/02/barack-obama-refused-to-say-the-pledge-of-allegiance-youve-been-played-for-a-daggone-fool/) I think it clears up the pledge and other fears about him not being ‘completely American’.
Casey, your views are definitely sound and very well expressed. I like your attitude towards things
Here’s a tiny url to the piece on Obama and the Pledge http://tinyurl.com/28jygr , the direct link is too long.
Wow. people are writing like, columns in response to this. My only comment is the Jonas Brothers wear chastity rings not promise rings. A promise ring is like a pre-engagement ring, and a chastity ring is the i’m gonna keep it in my pants ring. Just an FYI
Zoe, I mostly agree with you. I know America is hated by more than just the Muslims. I didn’t mean we have to worry about people hating us, but pulling out now would weaken our country was all I was trying to say. And I do think people need to have pride in the country they live in, especially if they are running for a political office. No you can’t choose where you were born but you should have some pride in where you come from, otherwise who would care enough to make difference? It’s not just America that has this pride. I see people driving around all the time with pride stickers on their cars from whatever countries they’re from. But you’re right America does think that they can just take whatever and walk all over everyone, and that is one think I can’t stand about this country (there are many many many things I hate about America, I guess you could say I really hate living here, and I actually hope to get out as soon as I can, so as you can see I have very little pride in America). I know there is so much that needs to change, I just wish the rest of America would open their eyes, stop being selfish and lazy and ignorant and make the changes that need to be made.
Jake, Thank you for the link. I will definitely spread that one around. I hadn’t even heard that those were rumors, everyone I know seems to think they are fact and that’s kind of scary.
Casey..you really seemed to change your tune when someone challenged your opinions. You went from being proud of your country to saying that you have very little pride in it, basically hate living here, and can’t wait to get out. There’s nothing wrong with having those beliefs…because you live in a country that givse you the freedom to…but you can’t just change them everytime someone disagrees with you..which is what it seems like you did. God forbid someone has a different opinion than the liberals that make up this blog..because I’m sorry I would say the majority of the writers sway to the left. The way they write about Obama, you would never know he was even running against someone
We’re always up for hearing other people’s opinions.
It’s a good guess to say a lot of us on here swing to the left (although I sure liked the McCain of 8 years ago…), but if any of you with moderate to conservative beliefs would ever like to write for us, please, don’t hesitate to let me know.
We’re all about learning here at CC. And love. …And chocolate.
Katie, I didn’t change my opinion on how I feel about the country. I didn’t state before my last post exactly how how I felt about America. (I did say that I hate the way the people are, so that goes along with my last post). My initial posts were not particularly about America (more about religion) and I did not express my opinion of the country in general in them. My last post was just to clear things up with Zoe about how I felt about this country (because she seemed to gather that I had delusions about how people felt about it and that I had ore pride in it than i actually do). So my opinion didn’t change. I still think people should have pride in the country they live in/ are from, and I said that in my last post. Trust me I’m not one to change my beliefs just because someone disagrees.
And I know I sound contradictory with my pride so just to clear that up… I wish this country was in better condition then it is and that the people here were a little smarter (common sense wise) and less greedy and selfish and rude. It is a great place to live and it’s a strong country and I was proud to be an American, but the way things are headed I want out, I’m losing pride in the country so I want to move somewhere where I can be proud to live. Somewhere that better suits me. I’m not sure if anywhere will suit me better (because this world is a fucked up place) but it’s worth a try.
Then do it. People in America are always bitching about how terrible it is, and how they want to move to another country, but do you realize how few of them actually do it? How about the celebrities who said they were going to move to France or move somewhere if George Bush was elected? Guess what, 8 years later and they’re still here. There are plenty of greedy people in this world, that’s not just in America. Selfish, and rude? You’re right, you’re not going to find those people anywhere else. A lot of the people in other countries who hate us so much sure seem to want to come here. Guess it’s because they want to live with selfish, rude and greedy people. I mean, you’re sitting there saying this about your country..where YOU live, where your family and friends live…but let me guess, you and your family, and your friends are the exceptions to the rule?
It’s not that easy to just get up and move to another country. And I can in no way afford to move to another country right now, I’m in school on a scholarship which is the only way I can afford to go to school right now. Yeah a lot of people want to get out, and a lot of people want to come here, It just depends on how you feel about the place. Obviously there are greedy selfish and rude people all over the world, but I’ve been to many many places in America, and I’ve been to many different countries and the people in some other places in the world are just genuinely nicer people. American’s were born with a superiority complex and I’m not sure how that is anywhere else but I do know how foreign people act when they come here and how they act when i go to their countries and when I compare that to how we act here and there ugh it kinda makes me cringe to tell foreigners that I am an American. Some people love us some people hate us, I don’t hate America but there sure are places I would rather be if I had the chance.
but why do you care if I want to leave or not? I have no problem with Americans that want to get out, it’s the people that come here and then complain about it that I don’t understand. I have to be here, they don’t.
Barack Obama = Harry Potter. Think about it.
