Celebrity Chic on the Cheap: YOU wear Short Shorts!

rihanna.jpgAs a kid, I was never really a fan of shorts. Unless they were my brothers mesh Umbro’s or later, the - who knows why they were trendy but they were - mesh bulldog shorts.

I found shorts to ride up, leaving me constantly trying to pick a wedgie when no one was looking (yet someone always managed to see). And let’s face it- unless you have legs like Gisele Bundchen walking around on a summer day can be more than quite uncomfortable in a pair of short shorts.

But these past few season’s shorts have been unavoidable. They have been everywhere and they have been CUTE. With heels? Cute. With sandals? Also cute!

Much like that annoying tag-along friend of yours, shorts have found their way into every occasion. From bars to the beach shorts have become appropriate (and trendy) attire.

So it would only be appropriate that before it gets too cold (although I’m sure some freshman girl will be wearing them to the bar- in January- with no coat and you will obviously spend at least five mintues talking about how ridiculous she looks before you realize that you did that too) that I bring you:

Icing on the Cake: Jewelry Trends, Summer 2008

jewelry.jpgAccessories are a great way to complete an outfit and add a little zest to your look. This year we see many old trends re-emerging, a few newbies and a few twists on those oldies but goodies.

Big jewelry continues to be a major trend, so one key tip is that if you’re gonna go big on the accessories, you need to go minimally on the clothes so you don’t end up looking like a walking Vegas Strip.

Nature is a main theme throughout jewelry pieces for the summer; you’ll see flowers, leaves and moons & stars in everything from pendants to rings and especially in drop earrings, so go ahead and get in touch with nature.

medallion.jpgOne of the “must have” pieces of the season is the not-so-subtle medallion. Medallions and pendants are back, as designers turn to the seventies and eighties for inspiration. A sub-division of this trend is another one; zodiac pendants. Say good-bye to wearing your name or initials on your neck, showing off your star sign in silver, gold or even diamonds is the way to go. Trend Alert: Bangles & Cuffs

lohanswrist_01.jpgUnless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that excessive wrist-wear is the hottest thing next to Paris Hilton hitting the slammer. Well maybe not that hot, but you get it.

Thick black and white bangles with printed designer logos to thin multi-color cuffs are populating everyone’s forearms these days. I love it. I mean, yes, the constant jingle, jangle is pretty annoying after a while, but no simple mini-dress or safari-esque outfit looks complete without ‘em.

My latest obsession really is the black Chanel bangle with the white logo coupled with a few other heavy black and white bracelets. (I noticed the combo in the “Green Issue” of Elle magazine on Christina Ricci and decided I NEEDED the look.)

Then again, a wrist-full of color is awesome too. So in an attempt to get both looks, cuffs/bangles - multi/black and white, I’ve found some super affordable alternatives to the pricey designer versions. Thank you Urban Outfitters and Forever21. Read More »
