I’ll never forget my first Delia’s and Alloy catalog spotting.

My then BFF Shanae pulled them out during our 6th grade Social Studies class as our teacher rambled on about the meaning of Thanksgiving. I was immediately drawn to the glossy catalog of teens wearing bell bottoms and midriff baring tops that my friends and I were dying to get into.

Since that day I’ve a been faithful catalog subscriber to both and will probably remain one until I have kids and start to rethink my hatred against these.

As an avid Delia’s and Alloy shopper, I’m shocked by the large number of college girls that don’t buy from them. Where most of the college girls I know either shop at Bloomingdales or Plato’s Closet, Delia’s and Alloy serve as a happy medium. They both sell quality clothing and each host an awesome online clearance bin (I just bought a $100 dollar fire red peacoat from Delia’s for 40 bucks!).

When I was 12 I had thick bangs, giant braces and a wardrobe that consisted of my brothers’ yellow-crusted-arm-pitted-hand-me-downs. I wore Umbros – one leg green, one leg purple – and maroon reverse fit jeans (read: mom jeans). I thought I was super stylish when I threw on one of my brother’s flannel button downs…and only buttoned the middle one!

I realize times have changed and fashion is a lot more accessible to the youngsters, but this girl is really making me feel like sh*t. Even now. And I really love my wardrobe. Or, I did, until I started seeing hers.

I don’t really know who this chicadee is and I totally question who is really behind the writing of this blog (because there is no way in hell a 12 year old could write this way….and if she can, I hate her even more), but none of that really matters. This little fashionista clearly exists…and obviously does so just to make us normal people feel bad about ourselves.

You were attached at the hip. You were not only BFF’s, but bffaeaeae’s. (and we all know how major that is) You did everything together, from stalking your 6th grade crushes via Facebook to buying the same top (different colors, obviously!) at Urban Outfitters.

But the keyword here is “were”. Now, you just can’t stand her. Sure life was great when you were braiding each others hair and playing Pretty Pretty Princess, but now? You would rather be sitting in your freshman year Geog. lecture (you know, where you had the professor who spit so much you needed to wear a raincoat to class?) than spend a minute with her.

Everyone has “that friend” the one where you either feel you just don’t have anything in common anymore (her hobbies include, shopping and wait what was the other one? Oh yea, shopping. While you like to think of yourself as a more “worldly” person, you cultured person, you.)

Or perhaps she has become that friend who only talks about herself. Either way, if she was a he, this would be the part where you would say “ Peace out homeboy I’m just not that into you” (or more nicely put… “I think we should see other people”). You remember the drama. Would Jeffery be able to compete in the finale? Did he really get help on his clothes? Did he tattoo “Detroit” on his neck because of the fact that he’s from Detroit, or was he just proud that he named his son after a city that Eminem made so famous? Was Uli’s accent fake? Could she design anything that didn’t belong on a Caribbean vacation?!While I may have been nervous about crappy reality TV because of the recent writers strike, Bravo couldn’t have planned more perfect timing for my favorite reality show ever. It’s BOMB of a show, Top Design (talk about over-hyped and under delivered) left me begging for another season of Heidi and Tim.

Vince is hot. And no, I’m not talking about Adrian Grenier (although I wouldn’t mind that Vince next to my body all day long). This Vince, the Vince, in my mind, that everyone seems to be wearing, first hit the stores in 2003. But with prices just above the average shopper’s range, the luxurious tees and sweaters were mostly reserved for those with lots of cash.

But with the arrival of Vince in Bloomingdales this past fall, the clothing line slowly became somewhat affordable for us everyday girls. Yes, the prices are still a bit steep, but the fit and the fabric most certainly make up for the extra bit of cash you’ll have to save. Read More »
