Recappin\' The Hills...

So, I was gone for a few weeks and
missed out on a lot of Hills recapping.
I was so excited to get back into it…
until I actually watched tonight’s totally
sucky episode. Like most episodes of
The Hills, nothing really happened. In
fact, the entire show can be broken
down into two sentences:
Lauren and Audrina make up.
Spencer acts like a douche in
front of his Nana. Read More...

Models: They Do Exist, and They Will Ruin Your Morning

p1_victoria.jpgAs I walked into work this morning, I was confronted by a strange, strange sight. In my post-commute, pre-coffee stupor, I almost ran into someone, and it took me a minute to figure out what was going on. Why was I eye level with a shoulder blade? Why was I surrounded by resort wear on a 45 degree day? Why did I see miles and miles of legs? Being the shortest one in the room I’m used to, but having to drop my head all the way back to look at a dozen designer sunglass-ed faces I am not.

The fog lifted, and it dawned on me. Models. It was a parade of models.

In all fairness, The Today Show is filmed outside my office building on a daily basis. I have seen all manner of odd things, from circus performers to weddings to Beyonce (who, coincidentally, I also almost ran into. What is wrong with me?!). But this one, for some reason, was more jarring than most.

My height, my weight, my decidedly half-assed business-casual attire and half-heartedly blow-dried hair were all thrown into sharp relief. How did these alien people, who have done nothing but exist in the same air space as me, make me feel like a lesser person than when I entered the building? Read More »

THE Sexiest Bathing Suit, Ever

wholesomewear swimsuitsPerez Hilton just made my day. Thanks to his new posting, I finally know what kind of bathing suit I’m going to buy before the summer’s over! Phew….I was getting nervous there.

Meet Wholesome Wear!!!!!!

“A modest line of clothing for “wherever.”

A spandex undergarment, a loose fitting Taslan outer garment and a single zipper that unites both garments for swimming ease? I can only think of one word to describe these waterproof wonders:

SEXY!!!!

Okay, I kid, I kid. These things are hideous.

The Culotte version, the Skirted version AND the “Slimming” version (not very slimming if you ask me) are monstrosities that look like they could be worn “wherever.” Like wherever, as in, on an Amish farm if you happen to be churning butter or fetching water from the well. Good God, not swimming in the water! Who the F*CK would wear these things in public and look this excited? Read More »

Male Models? This Woman Wants Her Men Fat!

fat_man_image_186262a.jpg

Here at CollegeCandy, we like ourselves a good man. Someone hot, smart, funny…fat? That last word is probably not on many of our “Things I Want in a Guy” lists, but at least one woman is speaking out about her love of the Corpulent Man.

European author Tobsha Learner is in love with a “voluptuous” man.

Describing him as “Paddington Bear with dangly bits”, Learner explains that her man’s weight—and his apparent acceptance of it—makes him much more alluring than the “fatless, hairless, allure-free atheistic” many male models and celebrities carry around these days. Read More »

Avoiding Post-Grad Depression: Extracurriculars

girl with surfboardCurrently living the post-graduate life in a city 16 hours away from my closest friends and family has forced me to deal with many grown up situations that I would rather not deal with, aka large bugs in my apt, sketchy landlords, and the fridge breaking ten minutes after filling it up with brand new groceries. Yeah, sweet life.

One problem that I would rather not encounter is seeking into depression, or what some may call the quarterlife crisis. And after doing extensive research on this topic for a previous blog called My Impending Quarterlife Crisis, I am realizing that it’s only a matter of time until I sink fully into the blues.

Therefore, I am attempting to be proactive and launching a pre-emptive strike on becoming depressed. Who’s with me?

My first tactic: reincorporate exracurriculars into my adult life. No, I don’t think that “joining a club” is the key to social issues such as obesity and body image as Leah rightfully points out. But, I was the QUEEN of being busy and involved in everything throughout high school and college. Why should the rest of my life be any different? Because of my activities, I met so many interesting people, learned all kinds of new things, and kept myself from boredom.

Here are some of the options that I am exploring now that I am no longer on a college campus:

15 Year Old Models Banned, Anorexia Still Promoted

kate moss on runway

Much like the fashion show organizers in Madrid who only use models with healthy BMIs, the higher powers at London Fashion Week have taken steps to make the event (somewhat) healthier by electing to eliminate models under the age of 16 for their Fall 2007 event.
14 and 15 year old models tend to be thinner and bonier than their older counterparts, as many of these girls have yet to fully develop and create an even more unrealistic perception of what a body should look like.

While England is showing some effort in eliminating these prepubescent girls from their runways, they have yet to ban size zero models. Women 16 and up whose ribs and collar bones protrude will be free to grace the runways. These bone-thin models advertise clothing designed for women who are realistically, at least 10 years older than them and have fuller, more common body types. So why would organizers at London Fashion Week want to use teenagers and uncommonly thin women to advertise clothing aimed at a completely different demographic? Read More »

Go-to Website: Actual Advice From Real Females

girl on internetThe internet is the easiest go-to tool for any question or topic you may need to find information on. I often find myself googling random questions related to beauty, diet, or relationships depending on what I am dealing with in my own life and how much time I have to kill in between classes.

But, I had yet to find one overall comprehensive website that pertained to everything female and included useful advice. The best advice always seems to be word of mouth from those who have been there before, and now one website includes all of these factors.

toptipsforgirls.com is one of my new favorite websites. It is described as a wikipedia-like online manual, and according to Vanity Fair, “the site allows visitors to rate tips and to share their own, so the collected wisdom of a world of women is available at the click of a mouse.” Read More »
