Recappin\' The Hills...

So, I was gone for a few weeks and
missed out on a lot of Hills recapping.
I was so excited to get back into it…
until I actually watched tonight’s totally
sucky episode. Like most episodes of
The Hills, nothing really happened. In
fact, the entire show can be broken
down into two sentences:
Lauren and Audrina make up.
Spencer acts like a douche in
front of his Nana. Read More...

What Women Want: Pretty or Pretty Smart?

study.jpghot-guy.jpg

Just like we are always wondering what guys are thinking (which is usually sex, boobs, or sex), guys want to know what’s on our minds. What do we want? What do we like? What the hell do we mean when we curtly say “it’s fine” after we catch them chatting with a whore another girl at the party?

Contrary to popular belief, they care what we think. Not only because they want to please us, but because they want to woo us, lure us…and get us into their beds.

So, we at CollegeCandy decided it was time to let guys know exactly what we like/hate/and dream about at night. So, vote, comment and pass this on to those boys in your life. And remember: unlike sex with most college men, this is all for you in the end.

What is more important to you: a guy who is well groomed (read: pretty), or a guy who is well-read (read: intelligent)?

Good News for Nerdy Boys: Women Go For Brains

nerd.jpgEver notice how you always see a hot chick/ugly dude couple, but never see a smokin’ dude with a non-so-smokin’ lady?

There’s a reason, ladies, and it has to do with science.

Researchers at the University of California recently studied the preferences of single women and found that women prefer brains over biceps, something I have been telling people for years. However, this finding doesn’t only apply to long term relationships; when lookin’ for a little late night action (read: one night stand), women also tend to go for the more intelligent men.

When considering evolution, it makes sense that women would want to settle down with a smart man: so they could potentially produce smarter children. But researchers were shocked about the one night stand situation. I am not.

We all know there is that awkward time - usually around 30-60 minutes - between taking the man home for a little fun and actually having said fun. A time that is filled with awkward conversation about your classes, the pictures on your wall and…I don’t know….politics?

And who wants to have conversation with an idiot?

Also, a smarter man is probably more likely to know how to please a woman, as opposed to a moron who can’t tell a va-jay from an elbow.

I’m not sure this study was really necessary (I mean, duh), but it does help me prove to men that women aren’t as concerned with looks as they are. Oh, and it gives hope to those computer engineers out there that they too can get a little late night booty.

Food for Thought (and Memory, and Studying, and Learning, etc…)

I’m starting to think that there is some truth to the rule, “You are what you eat.” I think my muffintop would attest to that statement. In general, I stick to a healthy diet (of cupcakes), but when it comes time to crack the books I know that my typical eating habits will affect my scholastic performance. While I usually opt for a bag of M&Ms at the library, I now know that a giant bag of sugar is not the best thing to get me through the hours of cramming.

In contrast, there are foods out there that have been shown to improve memory retention and attention span. Read: The foods I should be eating. I am one who will do anything to pass an exam, even if it means eating my way to better grades. Because what could be better?

Eat? For better grades? Grad school may be for me after all.

When it comes to the basics, we all know the rules: “Don’t skip breakfast,” “Drink lots of water,” “An apple a day…blah, blah, blah.”But when it comes to college life, we need more than just a healthy diet - we need to feed our brains. So I’ve compiled a list of some snack foods to help our neurons rock and roll. Read More »

MTV Wants YOU To Vote!

gideon yagoMTV wants you to be informed in 2008.

The network has recruited 51 youths to report on the 2008 presidential election using blogs, videos, and animation. Sounds…innovative?

The vehicle for these reports will be Think.mtv.com, which is MTV’s political and issue based website geared toward viewers with an interest in social action.

According to the Associated Press, “The participants in the program will be equipped with laptop computers, cell phones and video cameras and tasked with finding political stories that will particularly resonate with young people. Participants in the “Street Team ‘08″ project have profiles on Think.MTV.com. MTV recruited one member from every state as well as Washington D.C.”

This is good news! Mostly. As long as MTV goes the Gideon Yago route and not the Vanessa Minnillo route when it comes to who they’ve recruited to report election news in the coming year. If this political milestone becomes overshadowed by the fact that the chick reporting from Mississippi is smoking hot, then well, I’d rather watch The Real World. Read More »
