Nick and Norah Rocks!

I’m sure you’ve seen the previews for
the new movie “Nick and Norah’s Infinite
Playlist.” It’s based on a great teen fiction
book by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan.
The book chronicles the adventures of
two teenagers, Nick and Norah, who meet
by chance in a club and spend a crazy
night together in New York City. All the
events of the evening revolve around
music, hence the title. Duh. Read More...

CC’s Favorite Looks From Fashion Week 2008

fashion.jpg

Next to Welcome Week, NY Fashion Week is our favorite week of the year. We may actually like it more, but only because we can remember what happened/don’t feel like total hell at the end of it.What could be better than watching our favorite designers send their newest duds down the runway? And what better way to spend our days than by taking all those delectable looks and figuring out ways to make them our own?

Ooo wee! We get so excited just thinking about it.

This year’s fashion week did not dissapoint. Everyone from Nanette Lepore to The Gap pulled out all the stops and sent some brilliant looks through the tents at Bryant Park. We sifted through every last collection (yes, our lives are sad and horribly difficult) to bring you our favorites of Fashion Week 2008. Sure, actually being at the shows next to Anna Wintour and Rachel Zoe would have been glamorous and awesome, but we got to do this in our PJs.

Which is how we roll.
And wouldn’t want it any other way.

Project Runway Rundown: Don’t Feed the Leanne-imal

dvf.jpgI’m not gonna lie: I was drunk when I watched Project Runway last night. It’s not my fault; there was a two-for-one special at Happy Hour and I can never turn down a two-for-one. That being said, I think I need to be drunk every Wednesday night because, 1) pizza tastes so much better after some vodka/soda, and 2) I actually enjoyed last night’s episode.

The challenge this week was to design an outfit for Diane Von Furstenberg’s fall collection. HOLY SH*T! OMFG. WTF?! ROFL!! (Sorry…that last one doesn’t fit, but I just got carried away.)

DVF is a fashion icon. She’s huge! I would sell my first born child to wear one of her dresses. And everyone was super excited to get to work with her, especially Kenley who has never designed for someone that big before. Except, of course, K-Mart and Wal-Mart. In fact, she was so excited she cried. Three times.

Too bad that enthusiasm didn’t translate into her boring dress that I could totally make (and I’ve never even touched a sewing machine). Oh, and Kenley, let’s not tell Ms. Diane Von Furstenberg what is missing from her collection, K? Don’t forget: you have K-Mart on your resume. The end. Read More »

Prostitution: It’s In All of Us

prostitute.JPGWe all know that there are people out there who make a living trading sex for money. Hell, one of them is even getting her own TV show. As human beings, many of us frown upon the act of prostitution and view it as something dirty, disgusting and just plain sad.

Sex, after all, is supposed to be about love and expressing that love with a very special someone.

Or, at least, it should be free.

But it seems that maybe this whole “trading sex for something” thing is actually innate in all of us. A at the University of Michigan (Go Blue!) revealed that many people – including those from affluent backgrounds – were willing to (and already had!) trade sex for a good or service.

The results shocked many. Why would someone who has everything – and the means to get anything they needed – reduce themselves to bartering with their loins? I am no Psychologist (even if I did minor in Psych at UofM), so I won’t even attempt to answer that. Instead, I pondered the many things I would give it up for. Read More »

Naughty and Nice: A New Look for Fashion

2548_head_header.jpg

Historically, women have always been shoved into a little feminine box. We have always had to be proper - pinky out when drinking tea, crossing our legs at the ankle when sitting on the couch, letting the man make all the first moves. That trend has made its exit in the past 10 or so years, but for some reason, it still stuck around in the fashion world. Frilly dresses, delicate fabrics and beautifully crafted footwear are the staple of many women’s wardrobes.

But that custom’s days are also fleeting.

There is a new look making its way on runways from Paris to New York that is pairing the daintiness of yesteryear with the attitude of the modern day woman. And it is easy to do: the trick is to pump up the hardware on your feet and temper the volume of your dress so you look fresh and strong - not like Avril Lavigne. Read More »
