Recappin\' The Hills...

So, I was gone for a few weeks and
missed out on a lot of Hills recapping.
I was so excited to get back into it…
until I actually watched tonight’s totally
sucky episode. Like most episodes of
The Hills, nothing really happened. In
fact, the entire show can be broken
down into two sentences:
Lauren and Audrina make up.
Spencer acts like a douche in
front of his Nana. Read More...

Celebrity Chic on the Cheap: Herve Leger on a College Girl’s Budget

wrap-dress.jpgSome people say these dresses make you look like you wrapped yourself in a shiny bandage. To those people I say booooo (a strong comeback, I know).

I would have these glorious Herve Leger frocks as total staples if I could afford to buy thousand dollar dresses by the handful. But until I master that plan I will have to stick to my Herve Leger perfume and, like you, buy the cheaper versions of these so-hot-right-now dresses.

Every celebrity and “celebrity” under the sun has been seen in this Herve Leger Style - from Christina to Becks to Jenny McCarthy, and from the A list aaaaall the way down.

I’m sure we will be seeing many more a-knock-off on these dresses, but in the meantime I bring you:

Celebrity Chic on the Cheap: The “Cover Up Your Hickey and Still Look Cute” Edition

alba_tolani_scarf2-1.jpgIf there is one new trend I love, it’s the scarf. Weird that it became uber popular during the summer - as if I don’t sweat enough already in this humidity/heat combo. But, now that we are transitioning to fall I am all about the scarf.

It makes a schlumpy outfit look instantly pulled together (perfect for class) and it makes a dressy top that you would want to wear on a weekday (read: walk home from that cute boy’s place) a bit more casual (and not so obvious).

They keep you warm, spruce up an outfit and cover up hickeys (do people still even get hickeys anymore?!). Pretty much - scarves are perfection.

Jessica Alba jumped on this trend long ago and I think it’s time we all follow suit…er…scarf. I know this week I’m neglecting an entire ‘fit, but that’s the beauty of the scarf/wrap: it really goes with EVERYTHING. Read More »

Celebrity Chic on the Cheap: Vanessa Hudgins Rocks the Plaid

vanessa_hudgens.jpgSo we’ve all seen the trends for the fall.

Every time I’m in a store, I feel like I was thrown back into my time machine and should be busting out a version of High School Musical of my very own: The 1990’s edition. Okay well, actually, I was in middle school when plaid/flannels and all that other 90’s garb was popular, which left everyone questioning if that girl in the flannel button down and the hiking boots was actually a girl.

But at least this time around some of the 90’s fashions are coming back with a feminine twist. Like Vanessa’s plaid dress: it’s edgy, yes it’s plaid, but it’s gives you a waist AND shows some cleavage (cuz we know V. Hudge wouldn’t go out in public in a drabby table cloth-y thing).

So this week I bring you: Celebrity Chic On The Cheap: Punk-Rock Plaid Goes Glam. I never thought those words would come out of my mouth (much like, “I really like the taste of beer”), but the world of fashion is always surprising me.

Plaid Dress: So this dress isn’t plaid, but it’s tweed and has the adorable bow. Throw it on with some pumps or some chunky black tights and, as it gets colder, a black or white longsleeve shirt under it to give it some texture. It’s adorable and afforadable. (and the same price as a High School Musical DVD)

Other plaid Options: The neckline is on this fabulously plaid dress is retro, the plaid pattern is discreet, and the dress is rockin. Rock it out with a leather jacket in the fall, or keep it sweet with dainty shoes and delicate jewwlry. Read More »

Go International: New Line at Target is Grandma Fabulous

chai1.jpgI love Target. I get all my work clothes from there, plus all the generic little add-ons to my play clothes. I mean, is there anyone out there who isn’t obsessed with this store? So, when I took my weekly shopping trip there this weekend, I was totally stoked to see the newest addition to the Go International line!

I skipped through the aisles. I danced to the dressing room. I filled my cart with every last piece of the line from Richard Chai. His collection features clothes that range from business casual to Plain Jane casual. Chai’s fun yet subtle use of color runs throughout the line, while he still maintains a more sophisticated air than you would expect from a line at Target.

But, while this line has many good things to offer (the colors are fun without being over the top, most of the looks classic), it just fell short for me. (I know, I was surprised too!) A lot of the clothes felt a little too old and the cuts of the shirts made me feel shapeless. It also seriously lacked a fun and flirty side that previous Go collections flaunted. The summer line, for example, was all about, “Look at me! I’m flirty and sophisticated! Wouldn’t this outfit look great with a margarita?” Read More »
