Be Careful Out There, Ladies!

Miami University in Oxford, OH
(yea, confusing right?) conducted
a survey to see just how aware
young college women are about
the dangers of “drug-facilitated
sexual assault.” The findings were
surprising…and pretty scary. So we
all know about roofies and not to
accept drinks from guys cuz they’re
probably creeps who want to take
advantage of us. Read More...

Embrace Sweater Season!

sweaterFor most people, Fall means three things: football, candy corn pumpkins (my absolute fav.) and midterms.

And for those of us not living in California, Texas, Florida or any place with a year round temperature of hot and hotter, Fall means crisp cold air, hot caramel apple cider and sweater season!

No?
Anyone?
Well, maybe no one else out there adores Fall as much as me because none of you have seen the fabulous new sweater trends taking over the (cold part of the) country as we speak. Heading back to school means torn up sweatshirts and stuffy sweater sets no more. With my pal Marc Jacobs on the loose setting trends and taking names, curling up on the couch with a warm beverage and a warmer sweater never looked so good.

Inspired by his Fall 2007 collection, designers from Vuitton to the people behind Forever 21 are upping the ante and going all out for Fall. What’s in store (literally!) for you this season?

Belted Sweaters: Nothing says cozy like an over-sized sweater. But, nothing says dowdy like an oversized sweater, either. So, what do we do to make it chic? Belt it! You get the best of both worlds – cozy glamour – for a walk to class or a day at the library. Throw in a sexy camisole and you have the perfect ensemble for a night out with the boy. Read More »

The Bodybugg: One Amazing Weight Loss Tool

bodybuggBased on everything you hear, see, read, and study, you might think that there is some super secret to losing weight.

Take a moment to think and it is easy to come up with at least 10 different diets:

South Beach…Atkins…Weight Watchers…L.A. Weight Loss…The Cabbage Soup Diet…The Juice Diet…The Cookie Diet…Medical Weight Loss…The Zone…That one where you order the food…

If only losing weight were as easy as a simple equation.

Oh, wait. It is: burn more calories than you eat.

Makes you feel stupid, right? I mean, I have personally spent the past 10 years battling my weight. I go up, I go down, I plateau. I’ve done cardio, weights, pilates, yoga. I have spun, I have run, I have swam. I guess I am just not good with math and equations because I am still battling the bulge.

Besides my addiction to all things cake related, my biggest problem is that I just don’t know how many calories I am burning. Sure, the elliptical has a calorie count, but who knows how accurate that is?

Thankfully, there is a handy new tool on the market to help all of us with our weight loss battle. Introducing the Bodybugg. Read More »

Fall Fashion Lust List: Shoes

bootsEvery girl knows that shoes can make an outfit.

Right this very moment I’m staring at my sisters cream and navy Marc Jacobs patent stacked heels just wishing I didn’t have to strap on my cowboy boots for my night time hostessing job.

Cowgirl chic is not an easy to look to pull off.

In college, it is all about comfort and when the weather gets too cold for your rainbows and your Uggs are well, fug, it’s nice to have a few warm standbys.

This season, instead of my All-American chucks, I’m eyeing a pair of high top sneakers. I tried to convince my boyfriend that this style was totally him but he wouldn’t take the bait, so I’m going to. This pair from Nine West are more lady with an edge than rockabilly hipster, which I’m digging for fall.

The only shoe I fully rely on come fall are my flat boots. No girl can live without a warm and comfy pair to pull on at a moments notice.

Jeans, dresses, skirts, the flat boot works with every article of clothing. And finally affordable shoe designers are making them with some darling details. I can’t get enough of the buttons on these Steve Madden’s and the zip off tops of these Abaete for Payless. Read More »

Fall Fashion: Babushkas

I have been to Russia and can affirmatively say that it isn’t just a stereotype—the ladies really do wear headscarves. In Russia, “babushka” is the term for grandmother. And in Russia, babushkas are generally seen with scarves tied around their heads.

In Paris and Milan, however, designers took the term further; literally interpreting babushka as the term for headscarf. And wrap scarves they did as babushkas (the head scarves) were walking rampant down the European runways during the fall 2007 shows.

The trend was first spotted at Vera Wang where the designer appropriately sent Russian model Vlada Roslyakova down the catwalk donning a black head scarf. Although Vera was the first, many designers chose babushkas as their head covering of choice for the fall season. From fur babushkas at Dolce & Gabbana to a more minimalist approach by Giles Deacon for Daks, the babushka had it covered. Read More »
