Buying things makes me feel guilty. I mean, ridiculously guilty. Considering most of the clothes in my closet are there just for decoration, I cannot justify spending money on most of the things that I want, other than, “I want them!“. Which isn’t that strong of a case.
I suppose it could be out of pure vanity, since, I am a woman and unfortunately we do have standards to uphold in order to not look like we walked out of last Springs fashion trends, or last years trip to Goodwill (though I have found INCREDIBLE things at Goodwill).
With that being said, I never feel nearly as guilty if a portion of the money I’m spending is going to a good cause.
That’s why when Marc Jacobs came up with the new “Protect The Skin You’re In” campaign, as well as “Save yor ass” and “Protect your largest organ”, I was all over it.
Marc (my favorite designer) wanted to raise awareness on fighting melanoma and designed a t-shirt with naked (hot) celebrities. Proceeds from the shirt go to NYU’s interdisciplinary school of medicine melanoma cooperative group.
I don’t feel guilty about buying this stuff. In fact, I feel pretty damn amazing about contributing to this cause. Though, I kinda wish it was David Beckham on the shirt, rather than Posh Spice…but I still wear it proudly.
Designers are surely onto something here. Juicy Couture recently came out with “Viva La Cure” t-shirts supporting the Womens Cancer Research Fund. I love that designers are really trying to do something important. Usually their clothing is overpriced and seasonal, but these items are completely timeless.
