Is Sarcasm Unfeminine???
Recently I came across this article entitled
“Sarcasm is Unfeminine”. I wondered if this is
really how men feel? Do guys find women who
are sarcastic unattractive?

Is sarcasm the unibrow of a woman’s
personality (hence the photo)?

Nip/Tuck Just Keeps Getting Better

3747_19.jpgThis season of Nip/Tuck has been pretty damn good. It’s maintained my interest through all of the kinky sexual escapades (Sean and Eden), the strange plastic surgery requests (hair-plugged mustaches?) and even the guest appearances by Rosie O’Donnell.

But last night, I was reminded of the original, the raw and the murderous side of this sensational piece of show — because of a) Gina’s ’suicide’ and b) Crazy Agent Colleen.

Ok so, Christian is officially a murderer. Although the whole screwing Gina off a high-rise building seemed unintentional, I can’t help but wonder if he kind of meant to shove her off the edge. She was making his life a living hell, so why wouldn’t he want to get rid of her?

However, when it came to telling his son Wilbur about her death, it became quite obvious that he was mourning. What I’m most curious about though, is whether or not the whole incident will come back to haunt him. Will he ever get caught? Read More »

Nip/Tuck Gets Thinspirational

nip/tuck

There are a few things I could’ve done without in last night’s Nip/Tuck episode:
a) A guest appearance by Rosie O’Donnell. Gross.
b) Marshmallow fluff. Gross.
c) The ass bandit story line. Where in god’s name did the producers come up with this one? (However, Liz’s comment about “digitally dittling” the victims was pretty damn funny.)

Anyway, on to the good stuff…eating disorders.

As someone who very recently wrote a blog about “thinspiration,” I was especially intrigued by the role it played last night. Naughty Eden has introduced poor MacNamara’s daughter to the trials and tribulations of being a young girl who’s overly concerned with her weight. Not only does Annie ask Dr. Mac for lipo because her ass is too big (???), but she gets coached by Eden on “ana” and “mia” not to mention which “thinspiration” websites she visits so that she gets thinspired to skinny.

She even goes as far as making Annie practice purging. Good lord this was so f-ed up! Aside from the fact that this is only a TV show, it’s no wonder so many young girls are developing eating disorders with the kind of influence that’s out there. Read More »

The Television Pyramid

TV Pyramid

There’s just something about Regis Philbin, his demeanor, the look in his eye, the way he hunches over his high risen stool and leans into camera, peering relentlessly into the eyes of millions of American housewives and grandmothers. In truth, I can’t help but dislike him as Kelly Rippa chirps solemnly around set, over gesticulating her way into the stuff of a morning show legend. In the chair where Kathy Lee Gifford would ultimately rise and fall, how quickly we forget success when failure interferes with commercial advertising.

This is what daytime television is made of, predetermined banter spiked with personal ambiguity hidden behind the confides of little blue index cards. These types of hosts thrive mostly on conformity and the pleasing of the masses. Mostly they steer away from subversion preferring never to rock the boat. They are the “Murdoch worshipers”, living to please the peacock, look into the CBS eye and learn their ABC’s while minding their P‘s and Q‘s. These are “the Grains” of America‘s food pyramid. You should eat six ounces a day with at least half of them whole. Grains are the basis of a healthy diet. This may come as a surprise to you after years of being told to stay away from foods such as breads, rice, and cereal.

Though every host is in a sense looking to keep his or her position and maintain a relationship with a network it seems that there are a few using their timeslots as a platform to voice opinions, provide insight and increase social change. Oprah Winfrey for example changed the face of television by using her power to form a movement. Making a sincere effort to challenge the way Americans think and feel about the state of the world. Her book club increased literacy in America, her charities have save millions of lives, and her Angel Network has provided educational opportunities that were otherwise impossible for young students simply by collecting a country’s spare change. Rosie Vs Delay — just as long as they’re not jello wrestling

rosiedelay.jpgShe’s not my favorite person in the world, but I can’t help but feel a little something tender for Rosie O’Donnell these days.

Yes, she’s loud. Yes, she has made horribly stupid remarks in the past. And sure, she never really fooled me with that ‘nice’ act, but to have Tom Delay up your ass for saying out loud what a lot of Americans are thinking these days can’t be fun at all.

If you don’t spend all your time reading CNN.com and People.com like me, let me give you a quick rundown of the controversy: Delay, the former House Majority leader who resigned earlier this year under speculation of financial wrongdoings, is pissed at Rosie for a few things, but most notably, her continual questioning of the 911 tragedy. Rosie has publicly stated that she will seek “a rigorous truth” about September 11th , which basically means is that there are a lot of questions she feels have gone unanswered about the event. Delay claims that O’Donnell is blaming President Bush for the attacks, throwing conspiracy theories around and letting the ‘terrorists’ off easy.
