Be Careful Out There, Ladies!

Miami University in Oxford, OH
(yea, confusing right?) conducted
a survey to see just how aware
young college women are about
the dangers of “drug-facilitated
sexual assault.” The findings were
surprising…and pretty scary. So we
all know about roofies and not to
accept drinks from guys cuz they’re
probably creeps who want to take
advantage of us. Read More...

10 Looks You Can Steal from Fashion Week!

picture-6.png

It might seem a little bit early to be thinking about spring shopping, but for those of you who want to get a head start (or who just can’t wait for summer vacation already), here are the top ten looks I want to steal from fashion week this year (from top left to right in the above picture). Top 10 Websites for Shopping on the Cheap

loubo.jpgTell me if this sounds familiar: you’re relaxing in bed on a Sunday with a cup of coffee, coaxing the knot out of your brain left after five margaritas at Cabo Cantina, and flipping through the latest issue of Vogue, Bazaar, or Elle. After two hundred pages of Zac Posen dresses, Louboutin heels, Marc Jacobs bags, and “Smart Splurges Under $500,” you begin to cry.

Even if you traded in that hard-earned internship for a paid job delivering pizzas; even if you dropped out of school and stopped paying tuition; even if you sold a kidney, maybe two, on the black market in Thailand you still wouldn’t be able to afford a pair of $14,000 knee high alligator boots from Manolo Blahnik, or a $20,000 Hermes “Birkin” bag.

If you’re a dedicated follower of fashion like me, but poor as hell (like me), you need to know about these discount shopping websites: (In alphabetical order.)

amazon.com This site isn’t just for discounted books anymore. Amazon’s apparel and accessories department offers equally amazing deals on clothing, bags, and shoes from all the top labels. There are deals for every price range from over-the-knee patent boots from Jimmy Choo for $379 ($620 off the original price) to Seven7 skinny jeans for $18, a 70% mark down.

asos.com As Seen on Screen is a British company that specializes in trendy fashion items that are based on (or the same as) items worn by your favorite celebrities. They’ve got ASOS brand leather knee-high gladiators in the style of Ashley Olsen for £55 (about $102), a studded belt identical to the one Carrie wore in the “Sex and the City” movie for £15 (about $28), and an amazing selection of items from independent designers like a sheer chiffon floral top by To Love Kuvaa for £30 (about $56). Not Flattering on Anyone: The Kate Moss for Topshop Collection

topshopkate.jpg

I adore the whole designer-lines-at-discount-stores trend, and more specifically I love love LOVE Topshop, the stylish UK chain that’s finally coming to New York in the Fall (Yay!). But dear lord, Kate Moss, you’re making my life difficult.

A month or so ago, Topshop launched the latest collection from Moss, which, frankly, hasn’t been doing that well so far. Critics point out that Moss seems to be designing clothes for, well, herself; so unless you’re tall and ridiculously skinny and possibly a recovering coke addict, her clothes probably won’t look good on you. They will look good on her though! Super!

This new collection is no different (ridiculously long floor-length dress: if you’re shorter than 6’, it can double as a broom!), but with an added bonus: it’s all really ugly! Let’s take a quick look, shall we? Read More »

New GO International Collection from Target, Arriving March 2nd!

jovovich-hawk.jpgIn case you haven’t heard yet, Milla Jovovich and Carmen Hawk have been tapped to bring their Jovovich-Hawk line to the people by way of Target. A few photos of the collection have been leaked around the internet, and it looks great.

Jovovich-Hawk is known for a vintage-looking femininity, perfect for pulling off a boho look.

Target’s GO collection is perfect for those of us who love clothes, but hate spending money on them. Cheap clothes don’t have to be poorly designed, and Target’s lines are a perfect blend of high fashion and ready-to-wear style.

I was out of the country for a while, and sadly missed out on many of Target’s great lines (although I was lucky enough to snag a few pieces from the Kate Moss for Tophshop collection), but as soon as I got back I went on a spree, first picking up an adorable grey ruffled dress designed by Alice Temperley, and later a cardigan with heart-shaped buttons designed by Erin Fetherston. Trend Watch: Flapper Fashion

flapper fashion

You wouldn’t be alone if you thought that a modern, simplistic aesthetic was what was hot at the moment, however, you’d be dead wrong.

What is hot, you ask? Vintage. But not that 80’s crap you’ve been regurgitating for the last 5 years. Nope. Get ready for 1920’s vintage flair.

Needed:

Beading and fringing
• Drop-waists
Kate Moss for Topshop
Short bobs
Cloche hats

Could this be it? Are the days of babydoll dresses and tent-like silhouettes gone for good? Can we all finally find some dresses that will hug our curves and flatter our features? Is it finally acceptable to be dressed up and beautiful because - gasp! - you want to be? Read More »

Weekly Obsessions: Healthy and Happy

navy

Welcome to Thursday! Last week I was channeling Grandma, and while some of those habits have carried over from last week (I still can’t get enough of crosswords!), there’s a whole new crop of cool that’s just waiting to be unveiled to you all.

This week is about being healthy and happy. It’s not as hard as you think…

Fashion Obsession: Navy Blue

Everyone’s abuzz with the news that navy is back! Well, did it ever really go anywhere? Not to me! It’s been a long standing fashion no-no to pair navy blue and black, but not anymore, and I couldn’t be more excited. What’s even better is that it’s so easy to hop on the blue bandwagon that there’s no excuse not to give it a shot!

Check out this adorable little frock from TopShop (love the collar) or this navy raincoat from Forever 21 that is cute as a button! Read More »

A Flip - Flop That Is Also a Gym…

fitlflop.jpgNow that Kate Moss’s collection for Topshop is a few weeks old, London has a new fixation: the FitFlop. It’s a “biomechanically engineered” flip - flop that promises to “make your bum smaller and your legs leaner.”

FitFlops are supposedly so intense that the creators recommend wearing them sparingly at first, so not to exhaust or injure your legs. No testimonials yet as to whether FitFlops deliver, but they’re currently completely sold out across the UK and there is already an extensive waiting list for the next batch.

I know, I know, it’s upsetting — nothing worse than a waiting list — but you can take comfort in the fact that the FitFlops are hideous. They’re definitely the Uggs of summer.

See for yourself (and decide that you’d just rather go to the gym).

Kate Moss Is Back on Top with Topshop

Kate Moss TopshopEverybody’s favorite waif and occasional coke user, debuted her new clothing line at Top Shop this week. Shock me, shock me, shock me with your out of character behavior Ms. Moss. Is anybody really suprised that this fashion maven would team up with Topshop, the British company that manages to bring looks from the runway to stores in only a matter of weeks, at prices us mere mortals can afford? I didn’t think so.

This lady was behind the push towards high-waisted denim trend after all and was sporting skin tight jeans when the rest of us were still lounging around in boot-cuts.

I don’t care what anybody says, I salute you Kate. I think it’s postively swell that she would team up with Topshop, when H&M dropped her as the face of their campaign after those infamous pictures of her snorting the white stuff hit the press in 2005.

Let’s face it, isn’t H&M just a b-side version of Topshop after all? I would much rather sport similar duds of Sienna Miller and Kate Moss than deck myself in the weirdly business-like, yet clubby clothes from Madonna’s line at H&M. Does anybody really need a white leotard? Does Madonna even need a white leotard? Let’s be honest with ourselves folks. I hope those Swedes are kicking themselves right now. Read More »
