Be Careful Out There, Ladies!

Miami University in Oxford, OH
(yea, confusing right?) conducted
a survey to see just how aware
young college women are about
the dangers of “drug-facilitated
sexual assault.” The findings were
surprising…and pretty scary. So we
all know about roofies and not to
accept drinks from guys cuz they’re
probably creeps who want to take
advantage of us. Read More...

Rock The Look: Faux Fur

picture-11.png

[Do you ever feel like you can’t pull something off? Have trendy pieces in your closet that you would never have the courage to actually wear out? Well take those pieces out, shake off the dust, and continue reading!

In this series, I will choose a different piece that can be difficult to incorporate into an outfit and give you ideas on how to wear it. If there’s anything you would like to read about in the future, please leave a comment!]

It’s really starting to get cold out there now, but you can stay warm by adding a few furry touches to your wardrobe. Models on the fall runways sported real fur, but faux fur is a more wallet- and animal - friendly option. While it may be a little unrealistic and over the top for a college girl to sport a big fur coat, here are some ways you can subtly slip this trend into your wardrobe: Read More »

Love Em or Hate Em: High Waisted Jeans

fergie_300×400.jpgRemember when jeans came in Low, Super Low, Extra Low, and Dangerously Low? Yeah. Those could all be summed up into one rise: Show-Your-Crack Low.

Yeah, those were the days. You would sit in class and have no choice but to stare at the ass-crack of the girl in front of you. If you were lucky, she was wearing bikini style underwear. Otherwise, it was nothing but crack.

Well, people got sick of it - especially designers. In order to combat the crack, style makers decided to take jeans higher. Much higher. Enter the high waisted jean; it is very retro, very chic and very in right now.

While I love the lack of gratuitous crack in my life, I am not sure how I feel about the high waisted pant. Yes, Fergie looks great in a pair of high-waisted skinnies, but can all women really pull of this look?

Style Idol: Blake Lively’s Lovely

blake11.jpgCelebrities get paid to look good and serve as a style guide to all us common folk, and part of looking good is flaunting their totally awesome fashion sense. Each week, I will be highlighting my Style Idol of the week: a celebrity who consistently shows keen fashion sense and whose closet I would raid in a heartbeat.

Of course, no celebs are immune to the occasional “what the hell were they thinking?” moment, but for the most part, these celebs look foxy and fabulous and inspire us all to do the same.]

Blake Lively put herself on the radar with her debut in Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, but it was her starring role in Gossip Girl that ushered her into stardom and really put her on the map. It’s hard not to notice her gorgeous blonde locks, those perfect legs that go for miles and her stunning smile, but on top of those physical features, Blake’s got a timeless and perfect style. (Editor’s Note: I want it, I want it, I want it.)

Blake Lively has the ability to do something many of us hope we can pull off: look phenomenal not only when all dolled up, but also when doing her daily business in jeans and sweaters. She’s a huge fan of Chanel and oftentimes seems to embody the old glamour that Coco Chanel created.

Part of Lively’s flawless style is her ability to accentuate her assets perfectly. She shows off her gorgeous gams with skinny jeans that accentuate all the right details, and she is a master at coming up with the perfect outfit - from clothes, to shoes, to bags and accessories. Add her hottie bf/co-star, Penn Badgley, onto her arm and this girl is the hottest of hot young Hollywood, through and through. Read More »

Celebrity Chic On the Cheap: Let’s get Preppy One More Time

gossip-girl20.jpg[Every week our style guru takes a celebrity look and breaks it down for you, our poor college fashionista. What does that mean? It means that while the celebrities are spending $5,000 on an ensemble, you don’t have to.

All you have to do is click on the goods and - boom - you can buy the entire ensemble. Yes, we know; there is a spot for her in heaven.]

October 23rd marked Brit’s 10 years since Hit Me Baby One More Time hit radio stations and 7th grade girls dance routines nationwide, starting a school-girl frenzy. Everyone wanted to act, dress and be Britney (until she shaved her head and started walking around barefoot, that is). And this past year, Gossip Girl brought back the school-girl prep, showing us that What’s Old Becomes New Again, much like the current fads of 1990s flannels and studded belts.

So, in honor of this still-cute prepster look, which is in stores everywhere, I bring you this weeks Celebrity Chic On the Cheap: Let’s get Preppy One More Time. (Wow, I am so creative with words.) Read More »

Style Idol: No Doubt Gwen Stefani’s Got Great Style

gwen_stefani1_300_400.jpg[Celebrities get paid to look good and serve as a style guide to all us common folk, and part of looking good is flaunting their totally awesome fashion sense.

Gwen Stefani has long been associated with fashion; whether rocking her unique personal style, or showing her latest L.A.M.B line, Gwen knows what it means to be stylish. She’s never been afraid to take risks, and they almost always pay off. Her love of wild and bright prints, lots of color and, of course, her signature platinum hair and red lips, set Gwen apart from the rest of Hollywood’s fashionistas.

Gwen Stefani has never fit into the mold of “what’s hot now”; she created it. Despite the fact that she goes for bold choices, she carries them with an air that makes it all look effortless, owning the look instead of letting it own her.

It doesn’t matter if she’s pregnant or not, running errands or getting married; Gwen Stefani certainly knows how to make an impression. Read More »

Rock The Look: The Bare Shoulder

picture-7.png

[Do you ever feel like you can’t pull something off? Have trendy pieces in your closet that you would never have the courage to actually wear out? Well take those pieces out, shake off the dust, and continue reading!

In this series, I will choose a different piece that can be difficult to incorporate into an outfit and give you ideas on how to wear it. If there’s anything you would like to read about in the future, please leave a comment!]

One shoulder tops and dresses were huge on the runways this fall. Almost every show at fashion week featured the look. Perfect for a night out on the town with the girls, the one shoulder look is revealing but in a chic rather than “look at my boobs!” sorta way.

The key to this look is to keep it basic - the asymetry of the pieces stands out on its own so you don’t want to overpower the outfits with necklaces and other major statement accessories. Read More »

photo courtesy of target.comShoe worshippers can rejoice once again and give thanks to the gods of Tarjay (also known as Target to the common folk) who are bringing in another limited-edition collection from uber-hot and fab shoe design duo, Sigerson Morrison.

Any fashionista knows that these sleek and highly sought-after designs by CFDA award winning duo Kari Sigerson and Miranda Morrison run in the $400-$1000 range, but now you can own your own pair (or two or three) of Sigerson Morrison shoes for just $30-40.

Love Em or Hate Em: Red Lips

jessica-biel-big-red-lips.jpg

Red lips are everywhere this season, and for good reason; they are totally glamourous. In attempts to make this trend my own, I have spent countless hours at Sephora trying on every last red lip gloss, stick and tint in the store, but to no avail. Each one looks worse than the one before, making me look more like a little girl playing with her mom’s lipstick than a superstar.

The celebs and fashionistas of the world look sexy and sophisticated donning a red lip down the red carpet, but what about the average woman? Can we really rock this look? Should we?

What are your thoughts on red lipstick?
